Sisters and Brothers,
I have had many conversations with our members in the last couple of years since bargaining concluded in 2015 with our current contract with AT&T Midwest. Many of you felt that your voices weren’t heard by the Company and wanted that to change. If you know me, then you know that when work needs to be done I feel it is better to get in there and get dirty and get it done! For this reason, I decided to run for election to the CWA District 4 Bargaining Committee; and, I won. I will be joining several Local leaders from around the Midwest to go to Chicago next year and bring home the best contract for our members that we possibly can – whatever it takes.
The CWA Bargaining Committee can’t do this alone; “alone” is not what Unions are about! Each one of us has something to bring to this fight: Mobilizing; working safely to all rules; showing up to meetings; temporarily refusing to volunteer for overtime; and supporting each other during job actions. Maybe even, as a last resort, walking. In a previous article, I mentioned some prudent steps to take to get ready for 2018 bargaining now. Remember! The more and earlier we save up our Fairness and Unity Money, the stronger we are and the more able we are to participate in activities such as grievance strikes and other job actions which can help us secure the contract we deserve. Your participation in this next round of bargaining will be key and I know you are up to the task in supporting your CWA bargaining team.
