CWA Local 4009 Members,

When we founded CWA Local 4009 in October 1971, it was our intention and our goal to become more than just another local. Our wish was to have a meaningful and dedicated role to represent our members. We continue to work toward the ongoing struggle to improve the working conditions and benefits.

We began with 658 members at a time when it was an option to belong to a Union. We borrowed six hundred dollars to start Local 4009. We purchased a typewriter and rented a storefront with one telephone line.

We had a very dedicated membership and they helped us through some rough years. We were not just another Local, we were focused and determined to better our working conditions. So we had to become a strong voice in CWA and in the Company (Michigan Bell, Ameritech, SBC and now AT&T). In addition to the CWA-AT&T Midwest Bargaining Agreement, we also represent members in the AT&T Global Services Contract, the Direct TV Contract and the CBRE Contract.

Our strength lies with each member and the leaders that they support: Stewards, Chief Stewards, Unit Vice-Presidents, Executive Vice-President, President and Secretary-Treasurer. We have in fact gained the respect of the Company, the Locals in this state and other states, along with the District and International. We have made great alliances with the building trades; we have always supported them as they do us.

Other Locals have chosen to merge with us over the years, such as Local 4016, Local 4015 and Local 4010, Local 4004 and Local 4018.

We welcome new members and together Local 4009 will keep its promise to stay focused toward our goal to represent our members to the best of our ability. We will be the best example of all the Locals in the CWA.

The story of CWA Local 4009 would be incomplete without acknowledging President Emeritus Dominic Guadagni. It was Dominic's visionary leadership that inspired the formation of CWA Local 4009, where he served as President for over twenty-five years. Thanks to the foresight and dedication of Dominic and the founding Executive Board, CWA Local 4009 continues to thrive under the guidance of strong leaders who have been mentored by the finest.
